Deliver sound where it matters

Directional speakers

Two directional speakers with a 15° beam angle, designed for AV integrators, set designers, sound designers, and even artists.

What is a directional speaker?

A directional speaker, also known as a sound shower, focuses sound into a precise beam—around 15°—rather than spreading it in all directions.
As a result, the audio message reaches the intended listener without spilling over into neighboring areas.

Whereas a conventional speaker floods the space with sound, the directional speaker creates a localized listening zone. Two visitors standing two meters apart can hear two distinct audio messages without interference.

Our Directional Speakers

Waves System offers two models with distinct installation profiles. The same directional sound, but two different technologies and two different designs to suit your specific needs.

enceinte directionnelle Cube
Exceptional sound quality

Cube

Cube is designed for projects where the speaker is visible and needs to remain an elegant part of the decor. It has a 15° dispersion angle and covers a distance of 10 meters with a frequency response of 250 Hz to 20 kHz. The amplifier is built into the unit. The DSP allows you to play your audio files without any prior processing.

Its ultra-slim design fits anywhere thanks to the included VESA 100 mounts and mounting brackets.

A GLL file is available, a practical resource for integrators who design their projects using EASE or Soundvision.

The most directional of all speakers

Hypersound

Hypersound delivers more power while maintaining the same narrow 15° coverage angle. With a range of 15 meters, it is ideal for installation in a suspended ceiling.

The separate amplifier can be connected to two speakers to double the listening area or provide two separate listening zones.

Applications by sector

Directional sound is subject to specific constraints depending on the environment. Here are the most common use cases for our products.

Museums and galleries

Each artwork or display case features its own audio commentary, without the commentary spilling over into the next one. An immersive experience requiring neither headphones nor physical contact.

Retail & signage

Sound associated with screen or display stand. The customer standing in front of the shelf hears the message, whilst other customers are not disturbed.

Public areas and service counters

Targeted messages in the transport or administrative sectors. Confidentiality at bank, hospital or administrative reception desks.

On-site demonstration available

Our teams can come and demonstrate the product to you directly in your own environment.

Loan of equipment for testing under real-world conditions

Before you commit, check the performance for yourself in your own space.

Can be used with our Waves System players

For enhanced reliability and integration, without having to deal with multiple suppliers.

Why should you trust us?

When you place your trust in us, you are choosing a committed and experienced partner. Our directional speakers deliver outstanding performance and are backed by impeccable customer service. FAQ

What is the effective range of a directional speaker?

Cube has a range of approximately 10 metres. Hypersound has a range of 15 metres. These figures apply under normal indoor installation conditions. In very noisy environments, we recommend verifying performance on site before finalising the specification.

At what height should a directional speaker be installed?

The mounting height determines the diameter of the listening area on the floor. At a height of 3 metres and an angle of 15°, the area covered is approximately 80 cm in diameter. The higher the mounting height, the wider the area becomes. Our teams can help you calculate the optimal configuration for your space.

Can you combine several speakers in the same room?

Yes. The speakers can be set up in a network within the same space, provided that the listening areas are sufficiently spaced apart — around 2 metres between two areas with our models. This is precisely one of the most common use cases in museums and shopping centres.

What is the difference between directional and parametric sound?

Parametric sound is a directional sound technology based on ultrasonic modulation. This is the technology used in our Hypersound speakers. The term ‘directional sound’ is more general — it refers to any system capable of focusing sound output in a particular direction. For full technical details, see: Directional sound — how it works and its applications.

Is it compatible with show control systems (Crestron, QSC, etc.)?

Cube features an input terminal on a plug-in terminal block, compatible with stage control system triggers (Crestron, AMX, QSC). Hypersound can be integrated into any system with an RCA output or a compatible amplifier. For specific integration requirements, please contact us.

Does directional sound work outdoors?

Our speakers are designed for indoor use. The Cube’s IP rating is not certified for outdoor use. For a project in a covered or semi-covered outdoor area, please contact us so that we can assess the feasibility based on the conditions to which the speakers will be exposed.

Is directional sound harmful to health?

No. The ultrasound used in our systems is at levels that comply with current standards. The sound produced by the directional speaker is comparable to that of headphones, without any physical contact. Waves System products are CE-certified.

Your project deserves a solution that will stand the test of time.
