Since 2016, the megalithic alignments of Carnac have hosted the Skedanoz sound and light show every summer, offering visitors a unique night-time experience at the heart of this exceptional Neolithic site. After several years of success and development, the 2024 edition marks the 9th year of this event, which has become a must-see.
Organised by the town of Carnac and the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, in partnership with the local tourist office and the Paysage de Mégalithes association, Skedanoz, a show by Christian Salès, aims to showcase this thousand-year-old heritage while supporting the application of the megaliths of southern Morbihan to UNESCO World Heritage status.
The challenge for CS Prod was to create an innovative and captivating sound and light show at the heart of the megalithic alignments of Carnac, while respecting the integrity of this unique archaeological site. The team had to design an immersive experience that would showcase the Neolithic heritage, while overcoming the technical constraints associated with the outdoor environment and the fragility of the site.
At the heart of Skedanoz’s technical set-up, CS Prod deployed two video mapping media servers, capable of transforming the menhirs of Carnac into a living canvas. The 4040 with 4 outputs and the 4060 with 6 outputs enabled us to project images and animations directly onto the thousand-year-old stones, creating an immersive visual experience that respects the site.
The team worked closely with archaeologists to ensure non-invasive placement of the equipment, using low environmental impact technologies. This integrated approach made it possible to create an innovative sound and light show while preserving the integrity of the megalithic site.
Proxima proved to be an exceptional tool. Its intuitive interface allowed us to easily program and adjust the projections on the menhirs.
What’s more, the robustness of the hardware and software ensured constant reliability throughout the performances, contributing greatly to the success of Skedanoz.
